Unlike traditional shoes that you just put on and go, the rocker sole actually takes a little bit of practice to get used to them. So here’s some information to get you going and make you more confident in your new shoes.

  1. Place one foot flat on the ground and position your other foot on the heel so that your toe points up. Allow your foot to naturally follow the curved path of the shoe as you take your step so that your heel points up when done. Repeat this with the other leg. Continue to walk like this until you get a sense of how to keep your balance.
  2. Break in your shoes slowly. For example, try wearing the sneakers a half hour the first day, two hours the second day, four hours the third day and so on. If you feel like you need a break from the shoes, then take it so that you don’t overdo it too quickly.
  3. Wear your shoes on a regular basis. If your wearing the rocker bottoms for a particular reason, such as toning up, consistency is key here. Plus, you get the extra practice needed to feel confident in your rocker shoes.
  4. Review the instructional guide that comes with your shoes. Many brands, such as MBT, offer a DVD to give you a visual description of how to walk. Follow any guides that they provide to ensure you get the most out of your shoes.
  5. Avoid running in your shoes. This isn’t really a step, but you these sneakers are definitely just for walking and you don’t want to hurt yourself!

So that’s it. Simple right? Don’t worry if you feel like you’re off balance or unstable when you first put on your rocker soles. This is natural and goes away with practice.
